My Sin Isn't That Bad: Day 2
When my boys were younger, they would bicker with each other, which would always turn into a knock out brawl. When we reached the fight, we would see the last hit, but not the
Now whether you are a believer and follower of Jesus or you just live by a moral code handed to you by your family. There are actions that we would all agree are wrong, but sin is a much deeper issue than the standard don’t steal, kill, and cheat. We all have a sin problem.
Reminder from our time together yesterday- Sin is not being perfect. We all have sin, but we love to compare our sins to others. We all think that it isn’t lying or envy that matter, because we rank our sins by our own standards. Obviously Murder is bad, but a speeding ticket? Cheating on your taxes? Snapping at a co-worker in anger? These are not such a big deal. We can justify speeding, lying or being short-tempered because we were tired, stressed, in a hurry. Surely these are not on the same level as murder!
Jesus knew we would measure our own sins against the sins of others. He knew we would try to make ourselves out to be better, somehow.
In science a Litmus test is taking a small strip of paper and dipping it into a liquid. When that paper is pulled up from the liquid, it will change colors to let the tester know if it was an acid or base. This is meant to be an easy test, quick, and show results immediately.
Our litmus test for sin is to test everything against murder, but His litmus test is perfection, because he is more concerned about the true state of our hearts than we are, he explained that all sin makes us guilty, not just the big sins.

21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder,[a] and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Matthew 5:21-22 NIV
Matthew 5:21-22 NIV
Jesus knows we would rank ourselves, trying to make ourselves seem better, but the truth is we all have a sin problem. Thankfully, Jesus doesn’t leave us there. Knowing our imperfection and still wanting us in Heaven, God sent His son Jesus to die on the cross a horrid death to take on our sins. Jesus lived a perfect life so that all who ask Jesus to be their savior can have eternal life.
We all have a sin problem, but Jesus loves us enough to rescue us from it.

Prayer
Lord we know we have a sin problem, and that you are the only solution to it. We thank you for the love for us despite our heart always second guessing your purpose and goodness for us. Help us to remember that you are the solution, and that you are always standing with arms open wide, ready to hold us.
