Different: Day 1
Teaching our eldest son to drive has been an experience. Beyond the gas/brake pedal, road rules, and parallel parking, there has been the experience of having him take us to normal destinations. This has led to our determination that he has no clue how he has arrived at these locations for 16 years. We then have made it our goal to teach him not only the normal path, but the back roads. These roads are completely foreign to him, but they lead to the same location. It just seems sometimes like you are lost.
Thankfully, even the backroads or paths that seem to make no sense have purpose. In Numbers 33, we can see the route that the Israelites took to reach the promised land. There were multiple roads that the Israelites could have taken to reach the promised land. Roads that were shorter, roads that made more sense in the path being an easier travel, but God had them travel the longer path. (I’m not even talking about their wandering in the desert for 40 years.) However, what we can see now looking at the path that they took into the promised land, we can see the path of the battles that they fought along the way. With each battle, word would spread to the next group. The fear of the Lord spread before the Israelites actually even stepped foot into the same town. Then the battles became the boundary lines for the promised land. What seemed like a harder path turned into God providing in a way the Israelites would never have even known to ask for.
"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.."
Ephesians 3:20
The route that you are currently on, though it may not make sense, though it may be taking longer than you expected, there is purpose to the path. You don’t have to trust the path, you just have to trust the God who gives purpose in all things.
Sometimes, moving forward requires a different path.
Prayer
God, though I would not choose this route, I trust that you are working all things for my good, and that one day, I will be able to see your goodness through this. I don’t trust my situation, I don’t trust the different route, but I trust you.
