My Sin Isn't That Bad: Day 1
Sin is a term in archery, meaning that you didn’t hit the mark of perfection, or the mark in the middle. This would have been a term that people in Jesus’ time period would have been very familiar with.
What we are failing to understand about sin is that it only takes one act of disobedience to make us guilty before our Holy and Perfect God. Our creator is so pure and holy that no one can approach him or have a relationship while carrying the unrepentant sin.
We can see sin enter into the world early on, the first book of the Bible. Genesis 3 we see Adam and Eve both sin. God told them they could eat any fruit in the garden except for the fruit off of one tree. This is usually the part that people will argue that God shouldn’t have put this tree where they could reach it, or keep it out of the garden completely, but here is the truth, God will always allow choice. If he didn’t then the choice would have been removed from Adam and Eve and for all of us, and where there is no choice, there is no love, and God is Love. God wants us to choose him, and when we don't, consequences come into play. Not because God wants evil for our lives, but because our choice of anything over him, keeps us from a relationship with him. He is Holy and by definition, (set apart, sacred or pure), he can’t remain with those who are not Holy. If God is Holy and good, our choice to sin over being with Him removes us from GOOD things.
When we clean out our refrigerator at the Sloan house, there is always a science experiment growing in the fridge. The boys are always grossed out by the process, the smell, the sight of it, and sometimes even the game of “What was it?”, but when they were younger, they used to question why we had to clean it out. Now my kiddos are pretty smart, so I doubt very seriously that they actually meant “why do we have to clean it” and meant more of “Why do I have to clean it?” But the truth is the answer is one in the same. We are the ones who made this mess, and we are the ones who have allowed it to get out of control. God will not remove your sin from your heart until you ask him to do so.
13 Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”
King David wrote this after he abused his power by sleeping with the wife of one of his military leaders, and then arranging for him to be pushed to the front lines of the battle— where he was killed. In 2 Samuel 12:13 we see David confess his sin against the Lord and in Psalm 51 we see his prayer to be made new.
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” - Psalms 51:10 NIV

David failed, but God redeemed him. David had to face the consequences of his decisions, but God met David where he was. He will do the same with you, if only you ask.
Prayer
God forgive me when I sin and mess up. Create in me a clean heart and pure mind. I want to run into Your open arms instead of towards sin. Thank you for the gift of Jesus and for being faithful to forgive. Help me to seek You daily.
